Hamburger Buns
Ingredients
1 package active dry yeast
3 ½ cups of Niobrara Grain and Milling Bread Flour
1 cup warm water (105°F)
1 large egg
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3 tablespoons white sugar
1 ¼ teaspoons salt
Topping
1 large egg
1 tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon sesame seeds, poppy seeds, or everything bagel
Directions
- Combine warm water and yeast together and let sit until foamy (about 5 minutes).
- Combine 3 cups of flour, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and salt in a mixing bowl.
- Add yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until combined.
- Add flour ⅛ cup at a time until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl.
- Mix on low speed for 6-10 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Let rise until doubled in a greased bowl covered.
- Flatten into a 5x10 rectangle, ½ inch thick. Divide into 8 equal pieces. Shape into ½-inch thick discs, and let rise until doubled.
- Preheat oven to 375°F.
- Place egg and milk into a bowl, and whisk until well combined.
- Brush egg wash to the tops, and sprinkle with topping if desired.
- Bake 16-20 minutes until buns are lightly browned. Cool for 15 minutes, slice in half.
